Decision to attack "Islamic State" positions in Afghanistan by using "mother of all bombs" did not require the approval of US President Donald Trump. This was reported by Associated Press, noting that the information was provided in Pentagon. At the same time, "officials weren't authorized to speak publicly on the matter".

It is informed that Gen. John Nicholson was given the according authority before Trump’s coming into office.

John Nicholson, according to Pentagon, has the standing authority to use the bomb, which had been in Afghanistan since January.

As it was reported earlier, United States used America's most powerful non-nuclear bomb on ISIS targets in Afghanistan. GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast Bomb (MOAB), also nicknamed as "Mother Of All Bombs" was dropped from MC-130 jet.

President Donald Trump called the strike another successful mission. He stressed that United States have the best armed forces in the world and did their work as usual.

The strike was made in such way to minimize the risk for Afghan and American forces clearing the area currently. It was informed that US Air Force did everything possible to prevent victims among civilian population. American and Afghan officials claim that civilian population was not affected. Authorities of Afghanistan also announced that the bomb left 36 "Islamic State" terrorists killed. In the meantime, ISIS says no fighter was killed by mother of all bombs, denying any casualties or injured soldiers, according to SkyNews.

CNN referring to American officials noted that this is the first case of MOAB usage on the battlefield.

Experts are assessing the damages.

The bomb was designed during war in Iraq. Its weight was almost 10 tons.
