German Foreign Minister Sigmar Gabriel said that the diplomatic crisis in the Persian Gulf region around Qatar could bacome an open military conflict, reports Deutsche Welle.
"There is a danger that this dispute could turn into a war," Gabriel said.
The German Foreign Minister said that in recent days he had many conversations with his colleagues from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, Iran and Kuwait.
"From my talks this week, I know how difficult the situation is, but I believe that there are also good chances to move forward (in overcoming the crisis, Ed.), "Gabriel said.
We recall that Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Qatar and closed land, sea and air links, accusing it of supporting terrorist groups in the region, in particular Al Qaeda and the Islamic State.
