Criminal case opened in Ukraine's Zakarpattia region over anti-Hungarian billboards

The police search for the perpetrators, investigation underway

The police of Zakarpattia region (westernmost Ukraine, - 112 International) opened a criminal case on the fact of deployment of anti-Hungarian billboards in several districts. Hennadiy Moskal, Zakarpattia region governor posted it on his website.

The writing reads 'Let's stop the separatists' in Ukrainian, as seen on the image above.

The case was initiated on the fact of ethnic hostility and hatred, the authority specified.

The police search for the perpetrators and the pre-trial investigation is underway.

Recently, the Hungarian Government decided to double the help to support Hungarians in Zakarpattia region in 2019. Janos Potapi, State Secretary for National Policy claimed this, Origo reports.

‘According to Potapi, the financial aid will help 23-24 thousand people involved in the education, health, media and social and cultural sectors. 

He added that the annual subsidies for the Hungarian teachers in Zakarpattia region will be increased from $960 to $1800.

He said that the reason for this decision is the current tensed diplomatic situation and an unstable economic situation in Ukraine.
