UNESCO has added the Ornek, the Crimean Tatar traditional ornament to its List of Intangible Heritage. President Volodymyr Zelensky posted that on his Twitter.

"I congratulate the Crimean Tatar people and all of Ukraine on a landmark victory. UNESCO included the traditional Crimean Tatar ornament "Ornek" in the representative list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. It is a worthy recognition of identity of Qirimli and the beauty of Ukraine's cultural mosaic", Zelensky wrote.

According to Ukraine's Ministry of Culture, the decision was made at the 16th session of the intergovernmental committee in Paris.

"The Crimean Tatar ornament is an important element of self-identification of the whole nation, an integral part of life of every Crimean Tatar family. Ornament is a means of transmitting knowledge from generation to generation in the cultural and historical aspects of the life of the people, so the knowledge of Ornek was preserved during the deportation of 1944", the Ministry explained.
