Ukraine needs powerful mass media and independent judges; however, it is not likely that it is the part of plans of President Volodymyr Zelensky as MEP, Vice President of Association Committee Ukraine-EU Viola von Cramon-Taubadel stated to the journalists in Strasbourg.

“So we need a strong media, we need good and well-informed journalists and we can also talk about president’s attitude towards media, we need a very well-informed and a strong parliament and we need independent judges. And so far, I’m not really sure whether the president, I mean himself of course, but the President’s Office is intending to set this up. And definitely, what I’ve seen around Bohdan and his initiatives, he’s not really willing to do this,” she noted.

“There is one person around Mr. Zelensky who has everything in his hands. He was a former lawyer to Mr. Kolomoisky, he has done, as far as I was informed, very dirty stuff, he was in the environment, in the circle of Mr. Yanukovych. And of course, what we have seen is that every information, every draft law, every initiative is somehow tabled and conducted by Mr. Bohdan. And this is very dangerous if you have one person who is that powerful and who obviously conducts and rules the entire country out of the President’s Office, then we have, let’s say, a big lack of checks and balances,” she added.

Earlier Viola von Cramon-Taubadel stated that the chairman of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Bohdan dangerous when she commented on the risk of reforms’ closing up.
