A new mutation of the coronavirus, the Omicron strain, is spreading around the world. The mutation has already scared governments - more and more countries are closing their borders or introducing new restrictions. Not a single patient with the Omicron strain has yet been found in Ukraine, and the Foreign Ministry recommended that Ukrainians refrain from traveling to South Africa and six other African countries.

We have collected the latest news on the fight against coronavirus in Ukraine and other countries of the world. The data is constantly updated.

The biggest changes will be in the rules for the yellow zone: people who have not received at least one vaccination or who do not have a test or certificate of recovery will not be able to:

  •     take part in all public events (cultural, sports, entertainment, social, religious and other events);
  •     visit cinemas and other cultural institutions, gyms, fitness centers, swimming pools;
  •     use the services of business entities that carry out activities in the field of public catering - bars, restaurants, cafes and other establishments will be closed for them.

Due to the Omicron strain, Ukraine has introduced self-isolation upon arrival

Ukrainians who were in countries where the Omicron coronavirus strain was detected must go through self-isolation upon return.

In particular, travelers who have spent more than 7 days in South Africa, the Republic of Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, the Kingdom of Lesotho, the Kingdom of Eswatina, and the Republic of Mozambique in the last 14 days must go through 14 days of isolation.

The Foreign Ministry recommends that citizens refrain from traveling to South African countries.

Austria plans to introduce penalties for refusing vaccinations

The Austrian authorities plan to impose high fines in February 2022 for refusing to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Thus, the amount of the fine is 3600 euros or four months of imprisonment. If a person twice ignores notifications about the need to get vaccinated, then the amount will be higher - 7200 euros.

Everyone who lives in Austria, including people with a residence permit, will be required to be vaccinated. Some can avoid vaccinations if having contraindications, as well as pregnant women and children under 12 years of age.
