The hearings on the extradition of suspended leader of Catalonia Carles Puigdemont and minister to Spain will begin on November 17 in Brussels as AFP reported at Twitter citing the source at the court.
Advocate of Puigdemont Paul Bekaert intends to strive for the refuse of Belgium to execute the European Arrest Warrant of his client issued by Spain. He explained this by the possible warped judgment and politicized nature of the court.
The Belgium court released Puigdemont and his four allies under the written pledge to not leave the country on October 5. Also, they were obliged to submit their addresses and be present at all court sessions.
On October 1, a referendum on independence was held in Catalonia. According to the results, 90.18% voted for independence with 43% turnout. The Spanish government did not recognize the de facto declaration of independence by Catalonia.
