The district court of Kyiv decided to temporarily remove Ulyana Suprun from the office of Acting Health Minister because of her dual citizenship. This is mentioned on the website of the court authority.
Apart from the Ukrainian one, she also has the U.S. passport.
In particular, the decision says that the court considered the appeal by MP Ihor Mosiychuk from the Radical Party. The authority temporarily banned her from acting within the competence of the Healthcare Minister.
However, at that, Suprun was not restricted from acting as the Deputy Minister, as these responsibilities are also within her competence.
'The court explained its decision by distinct signs of obvious illegality of temporary performance as the first deputy of the Healthcare Minister in the period of time that exceeds one month since the person was granted the respective authority... Besides, the court took into account the complainant's arguments that in 2015, Ulyana Suprun received the Ukrainian citizenship and, at the same time, she still has foreign citizenship (the U.S. citizenship), while the Law of Ukraine 'On Citizenship of Ukraine', there's only one citizenship in Ukraine', the message says.
Earlier on Tuesday, February 5, Kyiv District Court has prohibited Ulyana Suprun from exercising the power of Ukraine’s Health Minister, as the court’s decision says, published by Ukrainian MP Igor Mosiychuk on Facebook.
“To prohibit First Deputy of Ukraine’s Health Minister Ulyana Suprun from performing any actions within the competence of Ukraine’s Health Minister,” the court ruled.
