Shevchenkivsky district court in Kyiv has obliged the SBI, State Bureau of Investigations to begin the pre-trial investigation into the possible fact of high treason committed by president Volodymyr Zelensky and his team, as they could be involved in disrupting the operation to detain Wagner private military company. A correspondent of Suspilne broadcaster reported that.
The appeal about the respective crime was filed by a group of people. However, the SBI law enforcers did not start the investigation, so the applicants turned to the court asking them to order the Bureau to look into the case. The motion was granted in full extent.
The previous session in this case was postponed because the SBI investigating officer did not show up.
In July 2020, Belarusian law enforcers apprehended more than 30 militants of the Kremlin-backed Wagner private military company. Part of these people served in Donbas combat zone, siding with he so-called "people's republics" of Russian mercenaries. In August 2020, Belarus decided to send them back to Russia, though Ukraine requested their extradition.
In an interview, Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated that special services of Ukraine and the U.S. were involved in that special operation.
In June 2021, president Zelensky denied the information about Ukrainian special agents participating in the operation. The SBU, State Security Service of Ukraine began to look into possible breach of the operation that occurred due to the information leak.
