Suspects in Kraian case, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov, his deputy Pavlo Vugelman and other officials of mayor’s office and businesspersons, were justified, as Dumska news agency reported citing the panel of judges of Malynivsky District Court.
The court delivered the verdict for four days. Kraian case concerning the purchase of the building for the new mayor’s office has been under consideration for six months.
The prosecutor’s office asked to punish the mayor with 12 years in jails with the confiscation of property as the organizer of the crime network and sentence his deputy Pavlo Vugelman to 11 years in jail.
Accused Oleksy Spektor, Vasyl Shkryabai, Volodymyr Radionov, and Petro Zagodyrenko were asked to be punished to 10 years in jail.
It was proposed to sentence accused Ihor Kravchenko to 11 years and Halyna Bohdanova to 7 years in jail.
The lawyers stated about the impermissibility of the gathered evidence and gross violations committed by the investigative bodies.
The court recognized some of the evidence against accused, which were gathered by the prosecutor’s office as impermissible.
Mayor stated during his final closing speech, which lasted for 30 minutes, that the building of the new mayor’s office was necessary for the city society and prosecutors agreed with him and changed the indictment. He also called this case to be political order.
The representatives of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) were not present at the court during the delivering of the verdict. Consequently, the prosecution will have time to appeal the verdict after receiving the copy of the document.
Earlier SAPO Head Nazar Kholodnytsky stated that the prosecutor’s office may appeal the verdict for Odesa Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov if it does not satisfy it. Now, the prosecutors of the SAPO have seven days to file an appeal, starting from the receiving of the copy of the document.
Besides, Mikheil Saakashvili came to the trial.
A stampede, shouts, and fuss began in the corridor.
“The police has blocked the hall, where the indictment is still delivered. Saakashvili assumes weak attempts to break through but titushky (thugs for hire, - ed.) are resisting him. Activists Alina Podolyanka, Mikhail Kuzakon, and others came with Saakashvili,” the message said.
The police kicked Saakashvili out of the building of the court. The hall, where the verdict was delivered was locked from the inside to prevent the breakthrough of the activists.
As it was reported, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) asked Odesa court to sentence Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov to 12 years in jail. He is accused of acquisition of $3,5 million during the purchase of Krayan plant.
As it was reported earlier, Odesa Mayor Gennadiy Trukhanov is suspected of violating the law due to the fact that he did not declare the property his wife owns.
The NABU detectives under the guidance of the prosecutors of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office served charges on Trukhanov due to the suspect of the embezzlement through the malpractice. Moreover, three people were detained on the same criminal proceeding.
The court released Trukhanov on the parole of Dmytro Golubov, the MP of Ukraine. Before this, the clashes near the court took place,38 people were detained.
