The counter-terrorism operation in Almaty continues, as law enforcers disperse the anti-government protesters. According to eyewitnesses, the military opened fire on unarmed civilians on the Republic Square. The local media reported that on Thursday.

According to Radio Azzatyk, "the law enforcers used the vehicles to approach the Republic Square and opened fire from assault rifles. Two activists confirmed that information, as they were present there at the moment". There were unarmed activists on the Republic Square who previously joined the various protest actions. According to the witnesses, at least one man who looked like 18-20 years old was killed in the shootout.

Explosions are heard at the Republic Square. The witnesses said there are patrol cars, armored vehicles and trucks with soldiers next to the location.

According to Sputnik Kazakhstan, currently, the law enforcers liberated the former presidential residenc, the city hall and the Republic Square.

NUR.KZ released the statement of the Interior Ministry, which claims that the activists who refuse to put down their guns will be eliminated.
