The regulatory committee of the Ukrainian parliament could not lift the lawmaker’s immunity from Maksym Polyakov, the MP from People’s Front party.
The committee’s session that took place on Thursday was interrupted as Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko argued with the committee’s members and eventually left the session. However, the gathering resumed, and the Committee ruled that Polyakov retains his immunity.
Maksym Polyakov is suspected of taking bribes and abusing power; he is one of the key suspects in the so-called ‘amber case’. Polyakov and his counterpart Boryslav Rozenblat are charged with taking 15,000 dollar-bribe from a company that intended to change the acting legal frameworks concerning production of amber in Ukraine.
