In recent years, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have become a real shield of Europe, and our country is a contributor to Euro-Atlantic security. This opinion was expressed by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel-General Ruslan Khomchak on the occasion of the day of the establishment of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Khomchak said that in February 2014, for the first time since the postwar period, internationally recognized borders in Europe were violated. Russia occupied and attempted to illegally annex Crimea and Sevastopol, and unleashed a bloody war.
According to him, today the Armed Forces are actively cooperating with NATO in all key areas of defense reform.
"We are effectively using the mechanisms and instruments of cooperation available to partner states, which deepened with our country receiving the status of an enhanced opportunities partner. Apart from Ukraine, Australia, Georgia, Jordan, Finland and Sweden have this status," he said.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said that in 2021, servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will take part in 15 multinational exercises outside the country and nine in our territory.
Meanwhile, The Russian Federation gathers tactical forces from its western and southern regions and brings them close to Ukrainian border. Ruslan Khomchak said this in an interview with Voice of America.
"Today, we can see that the Russian Federation has been dragging (...) battalion tactical groups to the east of our country, to eastern borders of Ukraine - posing it as preparation for West 2021 strategic drills. [Troops come from] Bryansk, Voronezh oblasts, and the temporary occupied Republic of Crimea. They are holding drills there", he said.
