On October 7, the coast guard of Libya published in Facebook a video of the shelling of the Goeast tanker, which was suspected of smuggling fuel. According to the World Maritime News referring to the coast guard, the ship's crew did not obey repeated orders to stop, after which a 30-mm cannon opened fire at the tanker. As a result, the fuel tanks of the ship and its engine room were seriously damaged. According to Libyan Express, the ship was soon overturned. The fate of the tanker's crew is unknown.

According to By24.org, the Goeast tanker is registered under the international number IMO 7526924 and went under the flag of the Comoros, but it really belongs to the Russian company "UVAS-TRANS", whose office is in the city of Kerch in the territory of Crimea occupied by Russia.
