According to the agency, the cost of coal mined in Europe rose to its highest value since 2008, then for the first time the cost of a ton of coal exceeded $ 200. Now the price has reached $ 137 per ton for delivery in 2022.
It is noted that the price grew in the face of high demand from power plants and against the background of low fuel reserves in Europe. At the same time, deliveries from Australia, South Africa and Colombia are "hindered". The situation is also influenced by a decrease in imports from Russia.
Earlier it was reported that coal-fired thermal power plants in Ukraine pollute the air more than all the EU countries, Turkey and the Western Balkans combined. And the dirtiest power plant in Europe is the Burshtyn TPP.
It is also noted that Ukraine produces 72% of all fly ash emissions in Europe, 27% of sulfur dioxide and 16% of nitrogen oxides. In addition, among the top 10 power plants with the highest fly ash emissions (PM10), Ukraine owns 8 power plants.
