Hillary Clinton, her team that supported her during the 2016 presidential election and the Democratic National Committee (DNC) funded the political research dossier, which contains numerous allegations against the incumbent U.S. leader Donald Trump. AFP news agency reported this, referring to the story by The Washington Post.
According to the U.S. outlet, a lawyer working for the DNC asked Fusion GPS company to look into Trump’s political and financial activities, as well as allegations involving his personal life. ‘The payments continued until just days before the November 2016 election. Fusion GPS has asked that a federal judge to block a House Intelligence Committee request to gain access to the company's bank records, saying it would violate its constitutional rights. The 35-page political research dossier, prepared by former MI6 officer Christopher Steele, has become central to congressional probes into Russian interference in the 2016 US elections’, reads the story.
Trump himself denied the allegations, describing the dossier as ‘fake news.’ He demanded that the FBI and the Justice Department find out and reveal who was the one behind the entire research and its funding, assuming Democrats could be the one who paid for the survey.
