China announced new sanctions against the U.S. after Washington imposed the number of restrictions that concern top-level Chinese officials, as Reuters reported.

“China announced “corresponding sanctions” against the United States on Monday after Washington penalized senior Chinese officials over the treatment of minority Uighur Muslims in the western region of Xinjiang,” the message said.

The sanctions aim at senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, U.S. Representative Chris Smith, Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback, and the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China.

This step of China is caused by the fact that the relations between the two largest economic centers of the world sharply deteriorated on such issues as coronavirus pandemic, trade, Huawei, and law on the national security imposed toward Hong Kong.

Thus, Spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry Hua Chunying stated that the actions of the U.S. actions interfere in the inner affairs of China, seriously violate the main norms of international relations and inflict serious damage to Chinese-American relations.

On July 9, the U.S. imposed sanctions against Chinese officials, accusing them of the serious violation of human rights toward the Uighur Muslim minority.
