Chief Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko said that introduction of the weekend lockdown allowed to reduce the mobility of the population on the previous Saturday and Sunday by 18-27%. Lyashko spoke about this at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on the nation's health, medical care, and health insurance on Monday, Interfax reports.
"The mobility of the population on the first ‘lockdown’ Saturday decreased by 18%, on Sunday - by 27%," Lyashko said.
According to him, if the proposed lockdown restrictions were fully complied with in the country, the mobility of the population over the weekend would have decreased even more.
Lyashko expressed the hope that the mobility of the population would be reduced to 50% the following week.
As we reported earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the introduction of the weekend lockdown was the right step as the number of contacts between citizens on those days had decreased.
"I believe that Ukraine has taken the right step. The World Health Organization has reported that the largest number of new cases is recorded throughout the weekend. Reducing contact between people is saving lives," he said.
