The charging document against the former SBU Major General Valeriy Shaitanov is passed to the court. The Office of Prosecutor General reported that on October 8. The former military officer is accused of state treason and a terrorist act attempt.

The pre-trial investigation found out that Major General collected the data which contains state secrets, passing it to special services of the Russian Federation. He contacted his curators in Russia who instructed him to find people to commit terrorist act in the army ranks. By acting this way, Shaitanov aimed to eventually murder Adam Osmaev, Major of the Armed Forces of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeriya who led the International Peacekeeping Battalion named after Dzhokhar Dudayev in 2015. This unit fights as the volunteer battalion in the Ukrainian military.

Shaitanov was apprehended on April 14, 2020. The SBU claimed he was planning Osmaev's murder. In May, they fired him from law enforcement agency; however, he kept his rank.
