President Volodymyr Zelenskyy welcomes Canada's ratification of an audiovisual co-production agreement with Ukraine. The document will take effect on January 1, 2021, the press service of the head of state reports.
"I am grateful to Canada and personally to the Prime Minister, Mr. Trudeau for completing all the procedures necessary for the entry into force of this agreement," said in the message.
According to Zelensky, this document provides powerful new opportunities for the development of the television and film industry in Ukraine, for the joint production of audiovisual content and the distribution of projects in the international market.
"I am sure this will make our bilateral cooperation even more fruitful, and the ties between the people of our countries even closer," the president said.
According to the document, subject to joint production, Ukrainian producers will be able to apply in Canada for budgetary support, tax breaks and distribution discounts. Canadian TV and film producers who will film in Ukraine are suposed to enjoy similar support.
The corresponding agreement was signed during the visit of President Zelensky to Canada in July 2019. The Verkhovna Rada ratified the document in September 2020.
