The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine agreed on the introduction of sanctions against the country of Nicaragua, which authorities have appointed their consul in the occupied Crimea. The decision on restrictive measures against the Central American country was made at a government meeting on Friday, Liga.net reported.
"Tough sectoral sanctions will signal an official message from the Ukrainian people to individual governments of states such as Nicaragua," Deputy Prime Minister Oleksiy Reznikov commented on the government's position.
Now the National Security and Defence Council and the Verkhovna Rada have yet to voice their opinion on this issue. If the relevant decision is voted on, President Volodymyr Zelensky will still have to approve or veto it.
In July this year the Nicaraguan government appointed an "honorary consul" in the temporarily occupied Crimea. At the same time, Ukraine's demand not to do this was ignored.
