The British Ambassador to the U.S. Kim Darroch decided to resign amid the scandal related to the leak of messages where he criticized the White House and the American leader Donald Trump. The incident triggered a diplomatic scandal between the countries, as Bloomberg reported.
In a statement the British Government published, Darroch noted that he leaves the post after “difficult” few days.
“The current situation is making it impossible for me to carry out my role as I would like,” Darroch said.
It was reported that Darroch resigns after Trump’s attacks. Earlier, the U.S. President called the Ambassador “pompous fool”.
“President Donald Trump decided to freeze out Kim Darroch, saying he would no longer deal with the man who had called his administration “inept” and “uniquely dysfunctional”,” the news agency reads.
According to the Press Secretary of Britain’s Foreign Office, Darroch will stay on his post till the new Ambassador takes over the position. At the same time, a temporary ambassador might be appointed.
It should be noted that the British Prime Minister Theresa May expressed support of the Ambassador and stated that his resignation is deeply regretted.
