The UK government representative commented on the inclusion of a Ukrainian trident in the list of terrorist symbols, which was conducted by British law enforcement agencies. This was reported by the press service of the British Embassy in Kyiv.
"As it was noticed by the police, the document clearly states that many of the symbols contained therein are of no interest in the fight against terrorism," the statement said.
He also said that the United Kingdom remains in a position of full support for Ukraine's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and also hopes for a deeper bilateral relationship in the coming years.
"The British authorities have the greatest respect for the official symbols of Ukrainian statehood, in particular, the State Flag, Coat of Arms and Anthem of Ukraine. We recognize that the trident, as the main element of the State Emblem of Ukraine, has a constitutional, historical and cultural significance for the people of Ukraine," the Embassy added.
As we reported earlier, the guide of the British police, sent to medical personnel and teachers as part of the campaign against extremism, features such non-violent symbols as Greenpeace, as well as the national emblem of Ukraine - the trident (tryzub).
The manual is distributed throughout the UK in preparation for the Prevention program to combat radicalization, designed to stop individuals who might threaten by terrorist violence.
