The UK Department of Defense holds Iran responsible for the attack on the Mercer Street oil tanker near Oman. London with international partners is preparing a response. This was reported by the press service of the British Ministry of Defense.
"We believe this attack was a deliberate, targeted, and clear violation of international law by Iran. According to UK estimates, on July 29, Iran attacked a Mercer Street tanker in international waters off the coast of Oman using one or more unmanned aerial vehicles," the statement said.
The ministry noted that ships should be allowed free navigation in accordance with international law.
"The UK is working with our international partners on an agreed response to this unacceptable attack," the Defense Ministry added.
Israel called on the UN for sanctions against Iran because of the deadly attack on the oil tanker Mercer Street in the northern Indian Ocean.
The attack killed two people: a Romanian citizen and a British citizen.
Iran, in turn, rejects the accusations against them of launching unmanned aerial vehicles.
