A fight occurred at the session of Kyiv city council. The activists who demand to create the Museum of Kyiv's History at Poshtova Square, broke the doors in the session hall of the city council's building.
According to 44.ua news agency, the cause of the fight was the discussion over the creation fo the museum and the scandal over the illegal building in the area. Both the supporters and the opponents of the construction reached the scene. The MPs of the council could not consider any of the questions from the agenda, as the quarrel between the sides grew into a fight.
The MPs from Samopomich party left the building, and their colleagues from Solidarnist and Samopomich party remained; Samopomich insisted that the agreement with investor should be postponed, while opponents demanded the investor to carry on.
Kyiv city council failed to vote for suspension of the agreement with the tenant builder, not collecting enough votes. The respective draft law was only approved in the first reading in April. The draft foresees passage of the land parcel and the unfinished museum to the state-run Centre of Kyiv Archaeology. Various construction projects are now considered on the international contest; the winner will get the right to construct the building.
In February 2015, the archaeologists found a part of the ancient Kyiv's street - deep under the ground at Poshtova Square. The Culture Ministry ruled that the tenant builder will have to change the construction project. The archaeologists suspended their work in the area because of the landslide in March 2015.
