Ukraine's State Border Guard workers did not let British TV presenter John Warren cross the Ukrainian border. The incident took place at Boryspil International Airport.
According to the authority's spokesman Oleg Slobodyan, the reason for the refusal is Warren's visit to Crimea in 2015, which was conducted in breach of the Ukrainian law. Warrren who is known as the anchor of 'Let's Go and Eat' TV show at Russia's NTV channel faced the three years-long ban to enter Ukraine.
'As the border guards performed the border control procedure, it appeared that the said citizen violated the rules of entry\exit to\from the temporarily occupied territory of Crimea', Slobodyan posted on Facebook.
During the interview, Warren confirmed he had visited the occupied Crimea in autumn 2015.
The disguised troops of the Russian Federation appeared in Crimea in February 2014, amidst the Revolution of Dignity in Ukraine. They seized buildings and premises of major authorities with teh assistance of the local separatists. Thus, Russia annexed Crimea, which neither Ukraine nor the international community ever recognized. The Ukrainian law foresees certain procedure for those coming to or from the occuppied peninsula; however, there are cases of businessmen and politicians breaching the law and visiting Crimea.
