US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has stated that Russia and Ukraine need to adhere to the Minsk agreements in order to achieve a de-escalation of the conflict. He said this during the Reuters NEXT conference.
"Both countries, Russia and Ukraine, need to fulfill what they agreed on in the framework of the Minsk agreements. Most of these agreements have not been fulfilled, and most of what has not been fulfilled has not been fulfilled by Russia," Blinken said.
He noted that Russia should return the troops it has concentrated on the border with Ukraine in order to defuse the conflict.
According to the US Secretary of State, it is necessary to return to the observance of the ceasefire, which the parties adhered to throughout 2020.
"If Russia and Ukraine adhere to the Minsk agreements, we will be able to resolve this conflict through diplomacy," Blinken said.
Meanwhile, the talks between US and Russian Presidents Joe Biden and Vladimir Putin may take place on December 7.
The final date is not agreed yet. However, according to Russian media, the meeting of the two presidents is likely to be held in the format of a video link.
"Their conversation (probably via videoconferencing) may take place as early as next week. December 7 is being discussed but the date has not been finally agreed,” the message says.
