Biden calls Putin to discuss Russian military presence near Ukraine

US leader stated his country would step up to protect national interests in response to Russia's actions

US President Joe Biden called his Russian colleague Vladimir Putin. Press office of the White House reported that on Tuesday.

The two leaders discussed a number of regional and global issues, including the growing military presence near the border of Ukraine.

"President Biden emphasized the United States’ unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The President voiced our concerns over the sudden Russian military build-up in occupied Crimea and on Ukraine’s borders, and called on Russia to de-escalate tensions", reads the message.

Besides, the U.S. leader offered Putin to hold a summit in a third country. 

Earlier, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Biden has to do more to restrain the Russian aggression and to help finish the war in Donbas.
