Head of the European Union Delegation to Ukraine Hugues Mingarelli has expressed hope that the incumbent leadership of Ukraine will continue implementing reforms that will promote rapprochement with the EU, Interfax Ukraine reports. He said he had no doubt about the vector. He hopes that the new leadership of Ukraine will work towards European integration. The positive thing is that they will not need to start from scratch, because some progress has already been made in implementing the Association Agreement, Mingarelli said at a press conference in Kyiv.
The ambassador noted that the previous leadership of Ukraine was clearly and consistently working towards rapprochement between Ukraine and the European Union.
Mingarelli also pointed out the need for reforms in the energy sector of Ukraine, the land market and the anti-corruption field.
Earlier, Hugues Mingarelli stated that the reforms in Ukraine are not implemented fast enough as this process faces active resistance.
"A struggle between those who try to preserve the status quo and reformers is always happening during the transition period. We can see such a struggle in Ukraine, but it is more active than in other countries with the transition process. Ukraine is one of the largest countries of the regions, so those people who could not form their interests contrary to the interests of the country over 25 years, are struggling to suspend or postpone the reforming process. Therefore, nobody should be surprised that the reforming process is not that fast and linear," he stated.
At the same time, the Ambassador stressed that the EU supports the reformers.
