Silvio Berlusconi, the leader of Forza Italia, former PM of Italy, can run in an election again: Milan supervisory court canceled the previous court’s decision, which banned him from running in the elections 2019, as Corriere della Sera reports.
Earlier, Berlusconi was sentenced to four years of imprisonment on the case on financial fraud. Besides, the politician was deprived of a right to hold public positions and run in the elections for six years, till 2019.
The term of imprisonment was reduced to one year first according to the pardons law, and later it was changed for the public works in a senior centre. Former PM had to look after people with mental health issues once a week within four hours, and the rest of the time he had to be under house arrest. Berlusconi was released in February 2015. He was also released from last 45 days of public works for good behavior.
Right block, including Berlusconi’s political force, won the parliamentary elections in Italy in March 2018. None of the political parties and coalitions received enough votes to form the government. There was information on possible conduction of early election to the parliament this fall. Berlusconi can run in this election.
