Belarus presidential candidate, the former head of Belgazprombank Viktor Babariko, is charged with a criminal charge, the article cannot be disclosed. This was reported by one of his defenders Dmitry Laevsky in a comment to Interfax-West news agency.
“Viktor Babariko, who is in the KGB pre-trial detention center, has been charged today. I can’t name the article under which the charge was filed as part of a non-disclosure subscription,” Laevsky stated.
At the same time, he emphasized that "Babariko categorically disagrees with the charge. The defense insists on his complete innocence," the lawyer said.
According to him, Babariko is "alive and in a good shape."
Laevsky also said that in accordance with the law, "the defense appealed against the detention of Viktor Babariko." “This complaint has not yet been considered,” he said.
On June 18, Viktor Babariko was detained with his son Eduard. The State Control Committee stated that the presidential contender was detained because he "was the direct organizer, leader of illegal activities." After the detention, contrary to the procedure, lawyers were not allowed to visit Babariko and his son.
