Belarus kickboxer could face prison term for resisting detention

Prosecution team asks the court to send him to jail for three and a half years

Belarusian court might put the Muay Thai and kickboxing world champion Alexey Kudin behind the bars. The prosecutor's office requests a prison term of 3.5 years at high-security penal colony. Viasna Human Rights Centre reported that on August 10.

"Prosecutor asks to sentence him to three years and six months in the high-security penal colony", reads the message.

Viasna reports that a district court looks into the respective case, as the athlete faces accusations of restisting detention and use of force against law enforcers.

Kudin is notified of suspicion. According to a regional outlet, he is accused of punching two law enforcers in the downtown Minsk on August 10, 2020; it was a rally of opposition activists. Kudin himself did not deny the fact but said that he did it to prorect himself. Besides, he said he did not participate in protest actions that day, and merely observed what was going on.
