Former Ambassador of Belarus in Slovakia Ihar Leszczenia who was one of the first diplomats who support peaceful protests has been detained.
According to Zerkalo.io, relatives of Ihar Leszczenia told that his home at Zhodzina was searched and the law enforcers took the ex-ambassador away.
Meanwhile, according to the volunteers, Leszczenia stays in Okrestina Detention Centre as volunteers published the photo of lists on Telegram.
Besides, 20 delegates of Skhod platform were searched. According to the human rights activists, 11 people were released after questioning.
Secretary of Belarusian Christian Democracy Denis Sadovsky was released after questioning. He is under non-disclosure agreement as his wife Tatiana Usinovych reported on Facebook. His house was also searched.
Meanwhile, the location of delegate of Skhod Nikolai Strekha is unknown. Human rights activists suppose that he is detained as his Telegram-channel is seized. The channel contains state symbols and text that the author “realized that opposition does not have a real leader and we were all wrong in our beliefs”.
Skhod is a virtual platform where it is possible to promote and choose representatives. It is planned that the representatives from all over Belarus – 328 people – will be able to defend interests of voters and participate in the national dialogue.
On August 16, 2020, Leszczenia stood against violent dispersal of protests against the victory of Alexander Lukashenko at the presidential elections.
On August 18, 2020, Ambassador of Belarus in Slovakia filed resignation letter due to the protests against the actions of the authorities.
