Belarus announces reserve training near border with Russia

Belarus would hold reserve training in the Vitebsk region that borders with Smolensk Oblast and Pskovsk Oblast of Russia, as Interfax-Zapad reported citing Spokesperson of Belarusian Defense Minister Natalia Gavrusik.

“The preparation of military-trained reserve at the military training is the process, which takes place constantly at the Armed Forces. The obligated reservists constantly drafted for the training of various durations during a year. Such training takes place in August. It will start on August 11 in the Vitebsk region,” Gavrusik said.

She also noted that the receiving of a draft notice does not mean the drafting for training. A person might be drafted to the conscription office or for the specification of data and documents.

Earlier, a number of Telegram channels reported that the conscription offices in the Vitebsk region inform obligated reservists about training. They should appear at the assembly points on August 10, the next day after the voting at the presidential elections.

It is also noted that the reserve training in the Vitebsk region will be held amid the incidence with the detention of 33 Russians near Minsk. They are considered to be the members of Wagner group and suspected in the intention to organize mass unrest during the election campaign. About 170 mercenaries stay in the territory of Belarus.
