The Azerbaijani military took control of 18 settlements in Nagorno-Karabakh on October 25. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev stated this, Publika.az reports.

According to Aliyev, the Azerbaijani military entered Zangilan, Jabrayil and Gubadli regions.

Earlier, Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed on a new humanitarian truce, which entered into force at 08:00 local time on October 26, 2020.

This is not the first truce between the two countries. In particular, on October 17, the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan simultaneously issued a statement declaring a humanitarian ceasefire. However, the very next day, both countries accused each other of violating the new humanitarian ceasefire during the hostilities over the mountainous enclave of Nagorno-Karabakh the day after the agreement was reached.

On October 10, Foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, at consultations in Moscow with the mediation of the Russian Foreign Ministry, reached an agreement on a truce between their countries in Nagorno-Karabakh. Nevertheless, hostilities carry on.

As you know, the escalation in the region began on September 27, when the Azerbaijani side fired at settlements, as well as military units in Karabakh. Then the motorized rifle and tank units of the Azerbaijani army launched an offensive in the northern, southern and southeastern directions. The Armenian government has declared martial law in the country.
