The Office of the President of Ukraine and the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) continue attacking 112 Ukraine TV channel. As we learned from sources close to the leadership of Office of the President, the SBU filed an appeal against the decision of Shevchenkivsky court of Kyiv, which had previously stopped an attempt to seize the corporate rights of the TV channel and transfer it under the control of ARMA - Agency for Investigation and Management of Assets.
The appeal will be considered by the Kyiv Court of Appeal. The SBU again demands to arrest the corporate rights of 112 Ukraine and transfer the channel to the management of ARMA, intending to forcibly and irrevocably take away 112 Ukraine from the current owner, Ukraine’s MP Taras Kozak for political reasons.
Such actions of the special services are directly approved by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, the Office of the President of Ukraine, and the Head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov.
Earlier, 112 Ukraine TV channel was deprived of its digital license as a result of direct pressure on judges by the previous head of the Office of the President Andriy Bohdan, which was repeatedly reported by the media.
Today, history repeats itself - 112 Ukraine considers the current Office of the President responsible for pressure on the channel in order to control the broadcaster's information policy.
The owner of 112 Ukraine, MP Taras Kozak intends to prosecute all employees the Office of Prosecutor General and the SBU who were involved in these illegal actions. “It will be a lesson for those who think of attacking the independent media,” Taras Kozak said.
An appeal on criminal offenses committed by a group of public officials involved in the attempted raider takeover of 112 Ukraine TV channel has already been submitted to the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). The appeal lists a group of investigators from the Security Service of Ukraine, which acted on the orders of the top officials of the state - President Volodymyr Zelensky, the President's Office and Head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov.
112 Ukraine informed the European institutions, the OSCE, international organizations for the protection of the rights of journalists and other organizations about what is happening.
The European Parliament has already condemned the authorities’ attack on 112 Ukraine. In particular, the Member of European Parliament from the United Kingdom Nathan Gill called the authorities’ actions unacceptable: “The owner of 112 Ukraine TV channel Taras Kozak is one of the leading opposition politicians in Ukraine. And the fact that President Zelensky uses government regulators to illegally seize corporate rights is unacceptable to me. This is simply unheard of and It is impossible to imagine that something similar happens in the West or in the United States. This is undemocratic. The Security Service of Ukraine is trying to take the TV channel from its rightful owner. And Volodymyr Zelensky approves this. These are unacceptable political actions of the current government against the legally elected MPs who are now in opposition."
German MEP Maximilian Krah said that the issue of government pressure on the channel will be raised during the autumn session of the European Parliament.
“It is also unacceptable that Ukraine pretends to be a country that is heading to the West. Someone may like it or not, but you should know that in developed countries the media are independent and they have the right to say what the government does not like to hear. We will not be silent and will raise this issue. Now the Ukrainian government is on the path of less freedom and the path of less democracy. The hot autumn will begin, and we will start informing everyone. We will have to ask Ukrainian ambassadors a few questions. And the government will have to answer these questions,” the German representative in the European Parliament said.
112 Ukraine TV channel will continue to defend its right for an information policy independent of the authorities.
