On December 15, the informal meeting took place of the representatives of occupied Donbas and MP of the German parliament from the right-wing party Alternative for Germany, MP from the PACE Ulrich Oehme as Naviny.by reported.
Oehme stated that he would like to remain his submission on the situation in Donbas and representatives of Alternative for Germany might stand as ‘honest mediators’ between the sides of the conflict.
He said that he would hold negotiations with the Ukrainian side, ‘because the issue of truce supposes two sides’. The MP expressed hope that soon it will be able to make ‘significant steps toward peace’.
Oehme said that he put forward an initiative to the Council of Europe to establish the negotiations between occupied Donbas and Ukraine and provide the authorities of occupied Donbas with a possibility to present their position. According to him, the representatives of occupied Donbas should participate in the talks between Germany, France, Russia and Ukraine.
The German MP underlined that he would like to submit the draft resolution to the PACE. The representatives of occupied Donbas stated at the meeting with Oehme that Belarusian Foreign Ministry was aware of these talks.
Ukraine’s Ambassador in Minsk Ihor Kyzym stated that he and the embassy were not informed about this meeting as Radio Liberty reported.
“But if we were informed and I communicated with this MP I would stand with a protest: we are against such meetings, which to some extent legitimize the illegal armed formations, the so-called Luhansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic. All talks should place within Triltateral Contact Group, the next session of which is planned on December 18. Now we figure out the circumstances of the meeting through the Foreign Ministry and I would like to talk with the Ambassador of Germany to Belarus,” Kyzym said.
As we reported, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky proposed setting up a special group within the Trilateral Contact Group in Minsk in order to organize a gradual return of the control over the Ukrainian-Russian border.
