Lifting sanctions against Russia is a non-issue currently as there is no process of implementing Minsk agreements. Foreign Minister of Austria Karin Kneissl stated that in her speech at the National Council, the lower house of the country’s parliament, Ukrinform news agency reported.
'Unfortunately, today we can’t see any tangible success in Minsk agreement to enable lifting sanctions within the EU,' Kneissl said.
According to Kneissl, in the frame of Austria’s representative in the Council of the European Union, Austria stands for improving dialogue between the EU and Russia. However, she reminded that the EU sanctions against Russia were introduced in response to the annexation of Crimea and destabilization in Eastern Ukraine.
At that, the Head of the Foreign Ministry complained about the impact of anti-Russian sanctions on the Austrian economy. She added that country’s export to Russia shrunk by one-third due to sanctions policy.
Foreign Minister of Austria Karin Kneissl became famous for dancing with Russian President Vladimir Putin on her own wedding. Yet, Sebastian Kurz, the Chancellor of Austria, stated that the policy of his country concerning Russia would not change.
