According to Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer, the EU's policy of granting asylum to migrants allegedly failed.
"Due to the growing number of illegal attempts to cross the border, we are forced to significantly strengthen our forces on the borders with Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia," Austrian Defense Minister Claudia Tanner added.
Meanwhile, Greece has offered to share its experiences on migrant issues with Lithuania as it handles a sharp rise in the number of people crossing its border.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Athens with the Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė.
They discussed how to provide adequate reception facilities, expedite asylum procedures, and “efficiently and quickly send back those who are not eligible for international protection”.
“What Belarus is doing is simply unacceptable,” Mitsotakis said after a meeting with Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė in Athens.
