The Austrian authorities declared one of the Russian diplomats persona non grata and expelled him from the country, Deutsche Welle reported.

The diplomat is suspected of industrial espionage. It is reported that an employee of the Russian embassy committed acts that violated the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Presumably, the diplomat received information about one of the Austrian high-tech enterprises from an Austrian citizen working for it.

The diplomat must leave the country before September 1. Such an incident occurred for the first time in the history of bilateral relations. The Russian refused to testify, citing diplomatic immunity.

In turn, the Ambassador of Austria to Russia was summoned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, where he was declared a strong protest in connection with the expulsion of the Russian diplomat and announced mirror measures from the Russian side.
