Foreign Minister of Australia Marise Payne urges Russia to recognize the results of the investigation of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) on the downing of MH17 flight in Donbas as news.com reported.
“I reaffirmed our unconditional support for the JIT's independent investigation…We regret that Russia has not accepted the factual findings of the JIT to date and reiterate that Australia has full confidence in the impartiality, independence, and professionalism of the JIT and in its findings,” she claimed on the results of the meeting with the colleagues from the countries entering the group.
Payne emphasized that Australia has familiarized with the interim results of the reasons for the catastrophe of the Malaysian Boeing and completely recognizes them.
“My Dutch counterpart, Stef Blok, also took this opportunity to brief our colleagues from the other JIT countries on our decision to hold Russia responsible, under international law, for its part in the downing of MH17 and reaffirmed our common resolve,” the minister said.
The Netherlands and Australia officially accused Russia of the downing of the MH17 plane. Particularly, when the Dutch prosecutors found the evidence that the plane was downed by the Russian “Buk.”
Boeing 777 of Malaysian Airlines, flight number MH17, was destroyed while performing a regular flight from the Netherlands to Malaysia in July 2014. The tragedy took place in the sky over the militant-held section of Donetsk region. All 298 people aboard deceased; most of the victims, 196, were Dutch, but there were citizens of other nine countries as well.
