At least five former fighters of dissolved Ukrainian special police force Berkut, who protected the regime of ex-president Viktor Yanukovych, fled to Minsk OMON as Novy Chas reported.
It is noted that after the victory of the Revolution of Dignity, many Berkut fighters escaped not only to Russia or temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas but also to Belarus. The journalists published information about five fighters of dissolved Berkut who not only became the citizens of Belarus but also work at the law enforcement bodies.
It is noted that as the result of the first investigation held in 2017, three ex-Berkut fighters were discovered at Belarusian militsiya. All of them are fighters of Minsk OMON. The names of Berkut fighters in Belarus were established on photos and contacts.
Another person of interest was caught by the journalists as the colleague of one of the Berkut fighters. The fifth fighter was found on social networks among the contacts of Mykolaiv Berkut fighter and current police officers of Ukraine who mentioned him as their colleague.
“The number of Berkut combatants in Belarus is not final; it will increase in the next parts of the investigation,” the message said.
As we reported, the investigation team of the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) suspects two ex-Berkut fighters of violating the rights of Euromaidan protesters in January-February 2014.
