It's impossible to believe that state-hired raiders would try capturing a private TV channel in a European country. Maximilian Krah, the MP from European Parliament said so in his commentary on the recent raid attempt against 112 Ukraine TV channel.
The official claimed that any attempt to restrict freedom of speech would be unacceptable in a democratic country.
"Having heard that, I could not believe that such a problem could take place in a European country. Obviously, they must be using the summertime period to attack the freedom of speech. I assure you that, if something like this took place in actuality, we would react. They've got to respect freedom of speech. The freedom of speech means to say something that the government doesn't want to hear. Their actions are unacceptable. And we will be doing a lot, applying pressure to stop such attacks on independent media", the MEP said.
He added that the issue of attempting to put pressure on independent media in Ukraine should be raised at the level of the European Parliament.
“Of course, this issue has to be raised and it will be raised. Therefore, it is also unacceptable that Ukraine pretends to be a country that is heading to the West. Someone may like it or not, but you should know that in developed countries the media are independent and they have the right to say what the government does not like to hear. We will not be silent and will raise this issue. Now the Ukrainian government is on the path of less freedom and the path of less democracy. The hot autumn will begin, and we will start informing everyone. We will have to ask Ukrainian ambassadors a few questions. And the government will have to answer these questions,” the MEP said.
