During the exercises soldiers will verify the training of calculations during combat launches of anti-aircraft guided missiles for air targets, the mastery of tactical techniques during the air defense, mobility and coherence of personnel.
"The main feature of the current exercises is that our units will use the Oreanda modern automated mobile command post," the message reads.
It is noted that this is the first use of Oreanda by an anti-aircraft missile regiment in conditions as close as possible to combat. Prior to this, Oreanda passed successful factory tests and proved to be effective in similar exercises of previous years.
The drills will be conducted in four stages. The first one is underway. It began yesterday, September 4 with the Air Command Center.
The joint U.S.-Ukrainian exercises ran for two weeks in different parts of Yavorivsky firing range. This year's drills involved more than 3,000 Ukrainian militaries. Most of them are members of the Mountain Assault Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Army. The majority of fighters were also the combat veterans in the Joint Forces Operation.
Some 500 militaries from 13 NATO countries joined the drills; they came from USA, Canada, Bulgaria, Georgia, Italy, Lithuania, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Germany, Denmark, Turkey and the UK.
Ukrainian and U.S. officers, Oleksandr Zhakun and Timothy Cleveland, were be the ones in charge of the exercises.
600 vehicles and four Mil M-8 helicopters were involved.
