Kyiv activists held rally timed to the anniversary of the death of Kateryna Handziuk. The manifestation took place on August 1, RBC-Ukraine news agency reported.
About 200 people gathered near the main building of the State Security Service (SBU) in Kyiv. They wrote "Manger, Hordeev, Ryshchuk. Bakanov, who has to call you to take these devils?" (Manger, Hordeev and Ryshchyk are the key suspects in this case; Ivan Bakanov is the Acting SBU Head, - 112 International).
Some of the protesters burned firecrackers. They demanded to punish those behind the high-profile assassination of Kherson-based public activist.
Kateryna Handziuk was the Kherson mayor's counselor and the famous fighter against corruption in her city. On July 31, 2018, she was attacked near her house. An unknown assailant poured sulfuric acid on her and escaped. In November, 33-year-old Hanzdiuk deceased because of the polyorganic failure and chemical burns, which covered up to 40 percent of her skin.
In June 2019, the Prosecutor General's Office suspended the pre-trial investigation against Vladyslav Manger and Oleksin Levin, the key suspects in the murder. This evoked public outrage, with activists taking it to the street.
