Agrarians protest against land sale in Ukraine, November 2019

Agrarians came to the building of the Ukrainian Parliament in Kyiv, protesting against the opening of the land sale market in this country. The correspondent of 112 Ukraine TV channel reported that from the site.

The protesters stand against the respective draft bills considered at the session today (November 13, - 112 International). They say if it is passed, they will not be able to buy the land and compete with large agrarian holdings", the reporter said.

The people went for an improvisation: they brought a dead pig to the Parliament, put it into a coffin and said they planned to bury it next to the Constitution Square, near the Parliament building.

"This way, they are showing their protest against the draft law, because they would have to slaughter their cattle to collect the money and compete with large agrarian holdings", the reporter added.

Deputy chief of the Ukrainian Agrarian Council Denys Marchuk claimed that as of August and September 2019, more than 5,000 units of dairy cattle. The prices for dairy products increased by 10 percent instantly. The same would happen to pig breeding. "Because large agrarian holdings do not care about the people in villages. They are only interested in making the profit. Today, they have cheap loans and high technologies. They don't need these people who came from all over [Ukraine] as a workforce. And we need people to live, the villages to prosper, schools and kindergartens to open, young families to stay in Ukraine. And it all supports small and medium business here", Marchuk said.
