Head of the Defense Committee of the Russian Parliament Andrei Kartapolov claimed that Ukraine risks to repeat the "Afghan scenario". Interfax reported that on November 23.

"All U.S. endeavors to help Ukraine lead it to the abyss", he said, remembering "how the American affair ended up in Afghanistan".

"Let's see whether Ukrainians will have to cling to American planes and helicopters that leave. And when the time comes, these assistants and counselors will be there no more", Kartapolov said.

As is known, the White House administration considers the opportunity of sending extra firearms and military counselors to Ukraine amidst the possible Russian military invasion.

The new package of military aid may include mortars and Javelin anti-tank missile launchers. Stinger anti-aircraft defense systems and Mi-17 helicopters may also be supplied; these helicopters were initially supposed to be supplied to Afghanistan.
