Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Russia does not intend to annex Donbas; this issue is not on the agenda. Peskov announced this on Friday, commenting on the statement of journalist Margarita Simonyan, who called for the region to be included in the Russian Federation, TASS reports.
"Margarita Simonyan is a media manager and journalist. She can in no way be the spokesman for the official position of the Russian Federation," Peskov said.
When asked under what conditions the Russian Federation is ready to include Donbas in its composition, he clarified that this issue is not on the agenda, either directly or indirectly.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesman added that "Russia occupies a very responsible position in efforts to assist Ukraine in resolving its internal Ukrainian crisis." Peskov also noted that his country will continue to protect the interests of the Russian-speaking population of Donbas.
A few days ago, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation said that Russia and the United States have serious disagreements over the situation in Donbas. However, the parties are ready for the dialogue.
