The number of Mikheil Saakashvili’s supporters at Sunday rally in Kyiv made 8,500 people – according to UNN news agency. Their aim is to support Saakashvili, demand NABU’s independence, and insist on impeachment legislation and dismissal of Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko.
Protesters marched the downtown Kyiv and stopped at Maidan Nezalezhnosti Square for a rally. Several Ukrainian MPs – Yehor Sobolev, Semen Semenchenko, Volodymyr Parasyuk, Vitaliy Kupriy, Yuriy Derevyanko and Viktor Chumak – turned to the government, demanding to release Saakashvili.
Police reports no incidents or any violations of public order.
As we reported earlier, on Friday night the enforcement officers detained ex-governor of Odesa region Mikheil Saakashvili and took him to the Security Service department, where he was placed in a detention facility. He is accused of aiding a criminal group.
