Ukraine has already filled the fourth claim to the European Court of Human Rights against the Russian Federation. This is the lawsuit Ukraine v. Russia, and a part of this lawsuit is violation of the right to justice, namely, Oleh Sentsov’s rights and the rights of other Ukrainian citizens who were illegally condemned by the Russian court.

Ukrainian political prisoners were subjected to torture and to inhuman treatment while giving testimony in Russia.

Sentencing in a Russian military court of acclaimed Ukrainian filmmaker Oleh Sentsov and activist Oleksandr Kolchenko caused a vigorous reaction arond the world.

Anne Brasseur, PACE President stated that "the sentencing of Oleg Sentsov and Oleksandr Kolchenko on charges of terrorism, respectively to 20 and 10 years in prison, appears to be manifestly excessive and raises concerns about respect for the standards of the European Convention on Human Rights in the legal proceedings against them, especially in the context of the deterioration of the human rights situation in Crimea since its illegal annexation by the Russian Federation".

Russian authorities refused to comment on the situation.

Over the life ECHR, there were 16 interstate cases, the last three came from Georgia.
